A Word from Jason Mohns

Varsity Head Football Coach

Saguaro Football Family,

Welcome to the 2018 Season of Saguaro Sabercat Football!

The 2018 season marks my 12th season coaching football at Saguaro, and my 7th season as head coach. I have practically grown up in this program and have shared many of the best memories of my life with the Saguaro Football family. The relationships I have developed with our players, coaches, and families are truly what make my job special. Thank you! Our football program has experienced a tremendous amount of success over the course of the last five seasons. In 2017, we became the only team in the history of Arizona high school football to win five consecutive state championships. The 2017 team rebounded from a 1-2 start, reeling off 11-straight victories to capture the Division 4A State Championship. The 2016 Sabercats finished the year ranked #13 in the country by MaxPreps and #18 in the country by USA Today. Most importantly, we have done all of this with class, character, and integrity.

The 2018 football season promises to be action packed, as the Cats’ look to extend their state record run of  “Gold Balls”. The Sabercats enter #Zone6 ready to take on top ranked out of state opponents from Nevada and California, as well as several top rated teams in the 4A, 5A, and 6A conferences. Our boys have been working non-stop since January to ensure that they are doing everything they can to keep the Gold Ball at home.

While winning a state championship is always our primary goal at Saguaro, it is not our only goal. We strive to develop young men of championship character, who will become leaders on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. Champions know there are no shortcuts to the top. They must climb the mountain one step at a time. Along the path of reaching their goals, our young men learn that the journey itself becomes just as important, if not more important, than achieving the goal.

None of our football program’s success is accomplished without teamwork. Our players and coaches need you— the Saguaro Family—to help us achieve our Championship Vision. I know you share in our lofty goals and we look forward to working with you to make those championship moments, on and off the field, a reality.

Again, I’m honored to be your head coach. Thank you for your support and “Go Cats!”
